Growing rose seeds?

April 16, 2007

I’m not an expert in gardening and I just started doing a lot of planting. I kept one of the many roses that my fiance gave me when he proposed. The rose has died but it’s still holding it’s shape and there are seeds inside. How long can the seeds survive before it can’t grow anymore? Is there a chance that I can plant the seeds and have it grow & have you tried?? Do you know if there are places that I can take the rose to and have them grow it for me? The rose has been with me for a few years now and I was wondering if I should keep it in it’s shape and not mess with it or try to grow it.

You may be able to grow the seeds into roses but it will take a while. They will grow if they have been pollinated, but the catch is you won’t know if they are, Usually if you have lets say ten seeds you will perhaps get one or two of them to grow, more if you are lucky!

Seeds can last a long time if they have not been damaged.
Detailed instructions on how to grow roses from seed are shown in the link below

It may be worth trying to grow some first and save some for further experimenting!
